Easy Apartment Workouts
March 4, 2014
According to the calendar, spring is supposed to be here in a few short weeks. Mother Nature might have different plans in store based on the much lower than normal temperatures we’ve been having. If you’re like me and you become a hermit in the winter, you may have taken a break from working out. When the warmer weather finally arrives here are some great workout tips to get you ready for beach weather!
Walk Around the Complex!
Most apartment complexes have sidewalks throughout, and if you’re lucky a set (or multiple sets) of stairs. Take advantage! It’s a great way to get in a couple miles without actually having to go the distance. Walking around the complex is also a great way to see or meet your neighbors. When the weather gets nicer, everyone will start to venture out of their apartments more and walk their dogs more. Ya never know when you might make a new friend! Also, bring along a set of free weights for extra resistance. You can work your arms while you walk.
Use the Fitness Center!
All of our complexes offer an on-site fitness center to our residents to use 24 hours a day. And better yet… it’s FREE. No monthly charges, no membership fees, and no gas money to get there. Our fitness centers include treadmills, bikes, weights, ellipticals, and plenty of workout space. Our Waterside location has a Yoga room available to their residents, complete with mats and other yoga equipment.
Do You Live Near a Park?
Parks offer a great escape from the treadmill or traditional sidewalks. There is usually a walking path and a playground. If you go early enough in the morning before the kids arrive, you can get creative with your workout. Blackhawk Park is within walking distance from Boulder Creek, Waterside, and Blackhawk Trails. Stairs, Stairs, Stairs
I admit, I love the elevator. I would like to kiss whoever invented it. However, elevators don’t help burn calories. Taking the stairs is a quick way to get a little exercise in, even if you have 10 bags of groceries. Instead of grabbing the cart and taking them all up the elevator in one trip, make it five trips of two bags each. Boom, quick cardio!
Workout at Home
There are a lot of workout videos on the internet and workout ideas on Pinterest that you can do right in your own apartment. My favorite is the “100 Workout”… just be sure you don’t disturb your neighbors below you with those jumping jacks! Another great place for a workout is poolside before the swimmers take over. The pool can be a quiet, calming place early in the morning when the sun is shining and the birds are chirping. Perfect for yoga, meditation, or a workout!
Water Fitness
Working out in the pool may sound easy, but it’s actually a good way to break a sweat. You can get good range of motion and work all muscle groups using soft fluid movement through the water. Adding in the use of foam noodles or waterbells can add resistance for an even better workout. Swimming laps can also burn quite a few calories! While our complex pools are not standard length for lap swimming, there is a warm-water indoor pool right around the corner at SwimWest.
NEW AMENITY FOR RESIDENTS! We have connected with a local personal trainer who will be available to come out and train here on site. His name is Josh Hinze and he will be offering free introductory sessions to any and all who are interested. If you would like to continue working with him, he will be available to come out to our fitness center and train on a price and schedule agreed to between the two of you. Hopefully, this will be a great opportunity to offer a service that many of you might be interested in, but may not have the time or access to do. Below is contact information for Josh and his bio. Feel free to get in touch with him and schedule your free introductory session starting now!
