Time for an Air Filter Change
April 15, 2015
The snow is gone, the weather is warming up…slowly… and perennials are starting to pop up! It’s spring and we are ready to open windows and do some apartment cleaning. But, something we always tend to forget when it comes to the change in the seasons is something that needs to be changed with the seasons: HVAC air filters.
The Normal Filter Wear and Tear
There are a lot of differing opinions on the life of a filter. It’s safe to assume that after 6 months of usage, your filter could use a change. It could be a little longer or even shorter based on usage of the heater or AC and, what’s happening in your apartment. We talked about this last year, but it’s always a good yearly reminder. We will change your filters in your apartment at any McKenzie Apartments location every 6 months at no cost to you. If you require more than 2 a year, you will need to purchase extra filters yourself.
Pets
If you have ANY pets (other than fish), your filter is going to be clogged up faster than someone without pets; hair and fur gets sucked into the vents pretty easily and during the winter, it can be even worse. If you vacuum a lot, you might have less of an issue.
Dust Allergies
Even if you do vacuum a lot, dust is everywhere all the time. If you or someone you know who visits often has dust allergies, it’s good to check the filter once a month. This doesn’t mean you need to change it that often, but it is good to see how much dust is accumulating. You can actually vacuum the filter yourself and they can then last longer, but after 6 months, it’s time to let it go.
So, when is the last time you checked your filter?
